YOUR TRUSTED PARTNER FOR ALL YOUR GRADING, EXCAVATION, AND RAIL MAINTENANCE NEEDS.
Cronin Civil and Rail provides rail services across western PA including rail maintenance, construction, decommissioning, access roads, derailment cleanup, and more.
Rail doesn’t wait. Track problems become shipping problems, and shipping problems cost money by the hour. Cronin Civil and Rail keeps rail infrastructure running across western Pennsylvania with maintenance, construction, and emergency response services for short lines, industrial operators, and freight yards.
We’ve been providing rail services for over 40 years, and most of our clients have had our number saved for a long time. When something goes wrong on the tracks, they call us. When something needs built, they call us then too.
Track doesn’t maintain itself. We provide scheduled and on-call maintenance for rail lines, sidings, and yards: ballast replenishment, tie replacement, rail grinding, switch upkeep, drainage clearing, and vegetation management. Monthly service contracts keep your line in operating condition. Emergency calls get answered fast.
When a facility needs new track, we build it. Spur lines, sidings, yard expansions, loading tracks. We handle the full job: subgrade prep, ballast placement, tie and rail installation, switch construction, and final surfacing. The track is ready to take cars when we leave.
Rail that’s no longer in service still has to be dealt with. We decommission and remove railroad tracks, ties, ballast, and associated infrastructure. We provide clean removal, proper disposal, and site restoration so the land can be repurposed or returned to grade without leftover rail debris sitting around.
Yards take a beating. Heavy car traffic, constant switching, weather exposure. We do the ongoing civil construction and track work that keeps yards and mainline sections functional: regrading, drainage repair, ballast work, switch replacement, rail relay, and surface corrections. The kind of work that prevents the bigger, more expensive problems.
Rail operations need roads that can handle heavy equipment and truck traffic in all conditions. We build and repair access roads along rights-of-way, at crossings, and within rail yards. Emergency washouts and storm damage get priority response. Non-emergency work gets scheduled and done right.
Derailments are urgent. We provide on-site support for derailment recovery: car re-railing assistance, debris removal, track and subgrade repair, site cleanup, and restoring the line to operating condition. Our crews mobilize with heavy equipment and high rail trucks to get operations moving again as quickly as the situation allows.
We handle rail scrap removal and processing: car scrapping, magnet service, rail and tie removal, and material hauling. If there’s metal or material on your property that needs to go, we have the equipment to get it out.
Damaged end gates on rail cars can cause loading problems, spillage, and compliance headaches. We repair and replace rail car end gates on site so cars can get back into rotation without shipping them off for shop work.

Yes. We can assess the condition of track, switches, ballast, and surrounding infrastructure to identify wear, safety concerns, and maintenance needs before they turn into larger issues.
